  • ELECTRONIC EAST AFRICA COMMUNITY (EAC) PASSPORT

In July, 2022, an e-passport center was launched at Uganda High Commission in Pretoria. The center enrolls Ugandans living in South Africa, Zimbabwe, Botswana, Namibia, Lesotho and Eswatini with the new EAC passports. The application process is outlined below.

Steps:

  1. Log onto the web portal, www.passports.go.ug.
  2. Accept the terms and conditions displayed in the Disclaimer.
  3. Answer the simple security questions.
  4. Complete the Passport application form (Please fill in all the fields on the form).
  5. Print the Passport application payment advice form.
  6. Make the payment for the selected type of passport that is Ordinary, Diplomatic and Official, using the given payment method.
  7. Schedule an appointment for a date of your convenience using the schedule appointment link.
  8. Print the Passport application appointment form.
  9. Report to the selected Passport Centre (The Uganda High Commission in Pretoria) on your date of appointment with the passport appointment and the appropriate application requirements displayed on the website.

Passport Application Requirements.

  1. Uganda National ID.
  2. Recommendation letter and copy of the national ID of the recommender.
  3. Documents supporting your profession
  4. Make payments as described in the fees structure.
  5. Any other additional identification documents e.g., driving permit, birth certificate, academic documents etc.

Obtaining a passport for a minor (under 18)

  1. Birth certificate
  2. Parents National IDs/ Copies of bio data pages and page 45 of their passports.
  3. Letter of consent from the parents.

Please Note:

The Applicants should only submit their passport applications on their scheduled day of appointment from 9:00 am to 1:00pm.

 

  • CERTIFICATES OF IDENTITY or EMERGENCY TRAVEL DOCUMENTS

A Certificate of Identity is issued to Ugandans who cannot readily access passports in emergency situations.

Application requirements for a Certificate of Identity

  1. Filled in Consular & Emergency Travel document forms
  2. 2 clear passport size photos
  3. Presentation of your passport, if it is expired
  4. For children, the parents should submit a certified birth certificate, a consent letter from both parents authorizing us to issue the child with a Certificate of Identity as well as passport copies of the parents.
  5. A police Affidavit and a copy of the passport bio-data page for those that have lost their passports.

Payment for the Certificate of Identity/Emergency Travel document.

The fees for the Certificate of Identity or Emergency travel document which are 800 South African Rand will be paid direct to Uganda Revenue Authority as follows;

1. Go to the web portal, www.ura.go.ug

2. Click on e-services

3. Click on Payment Registration on the left side of the page

4.Click on 'Other NTR'

5. Fill in your name and details in Uganda (residence/where payment will be made)

6.Under Ministry/ Department/Agency, select 'Diplomatic Missions'

7.Under Embassies/Missions, select 'Uganda High Commission in Pretoria'

8. Under Tax Head, select ‘Certificates of identity’

9. Enter the amount 800 Rand (which is the fee for the Certificate of Identity) under Additional fees if applicable

10. Click in the box for Total fees payable (in UGX)

11. Fill in your Identification details

12. Select the payment method that you would like to use

13. Accept and register the payment.

14. You can make the payment, attach your proof of payment and the other requirements for a Certificate of Identity and submit in person at the Mission.

 

Please Note:

The Uganda High Commission will NOT accept any payments for Certificates of Identity or Emergency travel documents that are made into our bank accounts.

  • APPLICATIONS FOR DUAL CITIZENSHIP

Dual Citizenship is applied for online at our visa web portal, www.visas.immigration.go.ug The fees and requirements can be viewed on the web portal.

Check list for Dual Citizenship Applicants (Indigenous Ugandans)

  1. Recommendation letter and National Identity card of recommender (Ugandan by birth of substantial standing)
  2. Valid Certificate Good Conduct from Interpol (issued within last 6 months)
  3. Proof of Ugandan Citizenship (copy of Ugandan passport/Parents' passport/National ID) and Page 45 of Ugandan Passport
  4. Copy of Birth certificate (applicants born outside Uganda)
  5. Current Passport Bio Data Page
  6. Recent Passport size photograph
  7. Medical report of sanity from a certified Doctor
  8. Notarized oath of allegiance (download and re-attach duly signed)
  9. Evidence that the other country permits dual-citizenship (letter from country/embassy)
  10. Proof of profession/occupation (Attach academic document/employment ID)
  11. Download and complete Form AA (re-attach Duly signed and notarized)
  12. Cover letter from the Applicant (addressed to Secretary National Citizenship and Immigration Board)
  13. The fee is 200 USD
  14. The timeline for processing is 4 - 6 weeks

Check list for Dual Citizenship (Non - Ugandan)

  1. Download and complete Form AA (re-attach Duly signed and notarized)
  2. Personal bank Statement for last 3 months
  3. Proof of payment of NSSF and PAYE of employees (for employers)
  4. URA Personal Tax Clearance Certificate/NSSF payments (for last 2 years) and proof of company ownership (for directors)
  5. Recommendation letter and National Identity card of 2 referees (Ugandan by birth of substantial standing)
  6. Valid Certificate Good Conduct from Interpol (issued within last 6 months)
  7. Copy of the current passport
  8. Recent Passport size photograph
  9. Medical report of sanity from a certified Doctor
  10. Notarized oath of allegiance (download and re-attach duly signed)
  11. Recommendation letter from LC1, RDC and DISO (from area of residence)
  12. Evidence of ten years continuous legal stay in Uganda (copy of entry permit, CR and DP)
  13. List of achievements or innovations which you have made in your occupation or profession
  14. Current immigration status (valid for at least 2 years)
  15. Copy of other countries citizenship certificate and Passport
  16. Evidences that your country permits dual-citizenship
  17. Cover letter from the Applicant (addressed to Secretary National Citizenship and Immigration Board)
  18. Proof that you possess rare skills and capacity for technology transfer
  19. Pre-payment fee is 200 USD (Non-refundable) and the application fee is 5000 USD (Paid upon approval)
  20. The timeline for processing is 6 weeks.

 

  • APPLICATION FOR VISAS AND PASSES

Any person intending to enter into Uganda should do so only for lawful purposes and in accordance with national immigration laws, guidelines and formalities.

Foreign nationals intending to enter Uganda for purposes of employment should comply with requirements for expatriate employment in Uganda.

  1. All visa prone nationalities must obtain Uganda visas to facilitate their entry into the country.
  2. All visa prone nationalities must apply for visas and passes online at our visa portal, www.visas.immigration.go.ug
  3. Any person intending to travel to Uganda must apply online and have a travel authorization/visa approval letter before embarking on their travel to Uganda as there are no visas issued on arrival.
  4. You will be required to attach documents depending on the category and reason for travel (You can view the required documents on the web portal).
  5. After your visa is approved, you can schedule an appointment to collect your visa sticker at the Uganda High Commission in Pretoria (Come with your visa approval letter, your passport and copies of documents uploaded online).

Nationals from visa fee exempt countries are required to have an invitation or conference letter, valid passport for at least 6 months, yellow fever vaccination which they will present at the point of entry where the border control officers will allow entry.

  • APPLICATION FOR UGANDA NATIONAL IDENTITY CARD

The Uganda High Commission in Pretoria receives applications for National Identity Cards for Ugandans living in South Africa, Botswana, Zimbabwe, ESwatini, Lesotho and Namibia.

Application requirements

  1. A Letter from your Local Council 1 (LC1) Chairperson in Uganda indicating that you are or were a resident of his/her locality.

 

  1.  The LC 1 letter should state that you are a Son or Daughter of Mr. & Mrs.…. who are or were residents of the area or a different area. If both your parents are still alive, the applicant should attach copies of their national identity cards. If both parents are deceased, the applicant should attach copies of national identity cards of an immediate relative, as well as a letter indicating that both parents are deceased.
  2. The LC 1 Chairperson letter should be counter signed by the District Internal Security Organization (DISO) confirming that the information provided is true and verified.
  3. A copy of a valid Ugandan passport

 

Please note:

  1. No payment is required to apply for a Uganda national identity card.
  2. An applicant must appear in person for both capturing of their biometrics and issuance of the national identity cards. Cards are neither issued to representatives nor sent by courier to the applicant.

 

  • CERTIFICATION OF OFFICIAL DOCUMENTS

 

The Uganda High Commission in Pretoria certifies the following official documents as true copies of their original. These documents include academic qualifications, driving licenses, marriage certificates, birth certificates and death certificates among others.

 

Before application for a certified copy at the Mission, the applicant must certify a copy of the same document at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Kampala, Uganda.

 

  • ISSUANCE OF MARITAL STATUS LETTERS

 

This letter is issued to Ugandans wishing to have their marriages performed outside Uganda. The letter confirms that the applicant is single and has capacity to enter into a marriage.

 

The letter is obtained from the Registrar at Uganda Registration Services Bureau (URBS) upon submission of the following:

 

  1. A recommendation letter from LC1 of the locality where the applicant resides in Uganda
  2. A copy of the applicant’s birth certificate to prove parentage
  3. Proof of nationality
  4. A registered statutory declaration from the applicant to prove that he/she is single
  5. A registered statutory declaration from the parents to prove that their son or daughter is single.
