Ambassador's Message

AMBASSADOR’S MESSAGE

Dear visitor, on behalf of the Uganda High Commission to Pretoria, I am honoured to welcome you to our website. Thank you for visiting us and seeking to know about our mission and the services that we offer on behalf of the leadership and people of the Republic of Uganda. Our Mission is also accredited to Botswana, Zimbabwe, Namibia, the Kingdom of Lesotho and the Kingdom of Eswatini.

I commenced my tour of duty as Uganda’s High Commissioner to South Africa on 30th July 2022, and I am excited to build on the admirable work that my predecessors did during their respective tours of duty. I intend to build on their commendable achievements and efforts in the service of Ugandans and friends of Uganda in Southern Africa.

Prior to my deployment to Pretoria, I served as Member of Parliament (MP) for Dokolo North Constituency from 2016 to 2021. That legislative role offered me the opportunity to serve all Ugandans as the Chairperson of the Parliamentary Committee on ICT, Chairperson of the Uganda Parliamentary Forum on Media, and a member of the Committee on Equal Opportunities and the Committee on Education and Sports.

The varied parliamentary assignments equipped me with the versatility that I am finding to be immensely useful in attending to the diverse needs of Ugandans and friends of Uganda in Southern Africa.

Under my leadership, our High Commission will continue to effectively implement Uganda’s Foreign policy by promoting and protecting Uganda’s interests abroad. During my tour of duty, emphasis will be put on Commercial and Economic diplomacy, i.e., the promotion of trade, investment, tourism and technology transfers. We aim to increase trade volumes between Uganda and our countries of accreditation.

Already, the bilateral relations between Uganda and South Africa have been further strengthened through the 2nd session of the Joint Commission of Cooperation (JCC), which we hosted in Kampala from 7th to 12th July 2022. The JCC is a framework that deepens and facilitates our collaborations across all sectors, e.g., Tourism, ICT, Trade and Investment, Education, Agriculture, Oil and Gas, and Transport, among others. I urge you to take full advantage of the conducive environment created by the renewed JCC.

We aspire to sign similar JCCs between Uganda and our other countries of accreditation.

In yet another boost to our economic diplomacy efforts, Uganda revived her National Airline - Uganda Airlines - in August 2019.The Airline has since expanded its operations to cover six (6) countries and nine (9) regional destinations, including Johannesburg.

The revival of Uganda Airlines aimed to improve air transport connectivity to and from Uganda in order to enhance the country’s competitiveness and foster economic transformation. Therefore, with direct flights, travelers are guaranteed reduced journey times and an exciting flying experience. Uganda is implementing an export led growth strategy and the excellent cargo capabilities of our Airbus A330neo are a big boost for our export aspirations.  Consequently, I urge you to leverage the direct flights by increasing passenger and cargo traffic between Entebbe and Johannesburg.

Dear visitor, the Uganda High Commission in Pretoria continues to offer services such as the renewal of passports, application for national identity cards and consular consultations, among others. We operate an open-door policy and welcome inquiries on any areas of interest.

For God and My Country

AMB. PAUL AMORU

HIGH COMMISSIONER
