UGANDA AND SOUTH AFRICA COMMIT TO PROVIDING EFFECTIVE AND EFFICIENT IMMIGRATION SERVICES. 23 / 11 / 2017

In his opening remarks, Dr. Benon Mutambi, the leader of the Ugandan Delegation thanked Mr. Mackay and the leadership of Department of Home Affairs for taking time to conduct this meeting remarking that this visit will be a resourceful experience which will assist Uganda in the effective implementation of a number of Policies and also gain more knowledge  in areas of capacity building and Training.

Mr. Mackay welcomed the Permanent Secretary and the Delegation to the Republic of South Africa remarking that this meeting is a sign of commitment and South Africa is indeed welcome to sharing and providing technical assistance to Uganda in a spirit of commitment to promoting the excellent cordial relations that exist between both South Africa and Uganda noting that such exchanges should be frequent and more engaging in order to achieve the required results.

The Meeting successfully deliberated on a number  of key issues specifically in the areas of;

  1. Provision of effective  Immigration services
  2. Training and Capacity building
  3. Boarder Management Control
  4. Movement of Persons.
  5. Electronic Visa and Permit Application Systems.
  6. Issues pertaining to Stateless Persons/ Individuals
  7. Skills Development 
  8. Risk Assessment 
  9. Law enforcement to mention but a few.

In conclusion both parties, Uganda and South Africa committed to undertaking more of such similar engagements highlighting this provides opportunities where both countries can benefit from  knowledge transfer , skills development and effective implementation of Policies for efficient Service delivery.
